keeping ferrets

Will using outdoor ant poison kill my ferrets?
I have a gazillion ants entering my home through my front porch. I keep the ferret cage near the sliding glass door that the ants are getting through, and there are ants all over the ferret cage. I want to put Grants Kills Ants outside to kill the ants, but I’m worried this will poison my ferrets. Is this possible? Any solutions?
The ants are probably getting into the food bowl of your ferrets to feed their young. When this happens, the ferrets won’t eat the food and they will get sick.
I had this happen to me when I kept the cage near the door also. I had to empty the cage out and take it outside and clean it really well. (The ants will also eat their poo because of the high nutritional values and the poor digestive systems of the ferret. ) What I did was to move the cage to another location so the ants won’t be so temped and then I got some ant killer liquid, diluted it and poured it in the dirt around the perimeter of my home. I wet the area after a few days to get the poison down deep in the soil. I do this about every six months and the ants don’t come back in.
I don’t like the ant sticks because I don’t want to run the risk of the ferrets or dogs getting one in their mouths. As long as your ferrets don’t get outside in the poisoned area and get a stick or any other poison in their mouths or on their skin, you should be fine. Be careful though and don’t spray or something that will blow into your home where you or the ferrets will come in contact with the spray.
